NextGen Gallery: What is it and how does it work?

old_postcard_albumThe NextGen Gallery by Photocrati is a 3rd party image gallery plugin that we use quite a bit to display images that a customer wants to show on their website.   What makes NGG so unique and popular is its ease of use when it comes to organizing your images.

NGG works with a hierarchy of albums, galleries & images.  Images are categorized into galleries and those galleries can stand alone or be organized into albums.

Here’s an analogy:  You have a several photo albums sitting on your coffee table.  One photo album is labeled “Kids Early Years”, another is “Vacations – 2000-2010”.  Assuming you don’t just throw pictures randomly on a page, you would organize the photos into sections or galleries:

  • pre-school
  • Kindergarten
  • 1st Grade
  • 2nd Grade
  • 3rd Grade
  • Hawaii 2000
  • Grand Canyon 2003
  • Mexico 2006
  • Caribbean Cruise 2008
  • California 2010

You might even pick out your favorite descriptive picture of that section and feature it at the beginning of that section.
